![]() ![]() Logic Pro X Pitch Correction Plugin VS Antares AutoTune Plugin Logic Pro X Pitch Correction Plugin This plugin is shipped with every Logic Pro X and without even having an additional Autotune plugin installed, you can use this to achieve great-sounding vocals. The pitch correction features that were once exclusive to the Antares Auto-Tune Pro ($) plugin are now available to everyone. The best free plugin for pitch correction in Logic Pro X is called “Pitch Correction” and can be located under Pitch in the Logic Pro X stock plugins. It does come with a very well-written manual, though. Instead, the user can feed the correct MIDI notes into the plugin and let it take care of the rest. One excellent feature that sets it apart is the ability to tune the processed audio signal according to the MIDI notes on the input. At first look, it looks pretty similar to Graillon 2 and MAutoPitch. In terms of its features and design, GSnap is still a fantastic pitch correction tool. Back in the day, pitch correction software was still somewhat of a rarity. It was the first free autotune VST on the market. GSnap is an old freeware autotune plugin. Aside from those few drawbacks, MAutoPitch is a brilliant free autotune VST that could quickly become your go-to pitch correction tool. ![]() This results in unnecessarily long download times and a somewhat cumbersome installation procedure. The added stereo widening feature can be helpful in a vocal processing chain, but make sure to double-check your mix in mono when using it. This free autotune effect is flexible and easy to operate, with adjustable speed, range, scale, and depth. The developer recently released an updated version of Graillon 2. This will effectively thicken the vocals, adding depth and slightly correcting the pitch at the same time. Or, you can add some pitch shifting with preserved formants to the mix. I’d bet you’d get random answers if you tested people on blind test. I’m not saying that the delay that is technically there is in-audible I’m saying it’s no where near long enough to be called lag. If you hear lag you either have bad settings, driver issue, or need a gear upgrade. Top gear with a buffer setting of 64 and no extra plugins still gives probably 5 ms delay I’d gues. ![]() ![]() The 10ms delay you get with a buffer setting of isn’t anywhere audible enough to be called “lag” and it won’t “throw off” the best or worst vocalist. It still remains that lower latency is better – people can sometimes subconsciously perform better. If a singer is trying to hear themselves auto-tune’d as they record, I don’t expect them to be the same person that can recognize and be concerned by a 8ms delay in the cans. I really think there’s a whole generation growing up never having had a great headphone mix with no latency. For other sources where you’re not pitching against head resonances, it’s less critical. I’d always use direct monitoring for voice if available. Personally, I notice a lag even when recording through the computer at a buffer size of samples, even with no autotune. Turn it off and back on again and it’s fixed. There is most likely a another plugin you’re not aware of thats needing the buffer, or your buffer setting is too high, or you have an interface issue OR you have noticed there’s a BUG in AT8 where Live Mode doesn’t always engage even when it says it has when you copy channel to channel etc. There is technically a small one, but that’s from the buffer. I’ve been doing it for a long time, and sold my Auto-Tune Live license when AT8 added the live option. Other then that do you have any high latency limiters or other plugins on your master fader that might cause the input to lag? Click here to see other posts on JustaMic. However, if you have the means, I recommend you purchase the Auto-Tune plugin from Antares, this is an industry-standard plugin, and you will not go wrong with it. If you are an upcoming music producer or artist who is tight on budget but you need your vocals to sound great, you should definitely hop on the Logic Pro X Pitch Correction plugin, this is free and will save you a lot of money.
